We welcome Dr Liam Gillespie as a new partner of the practice from 1st September 2018. Dr Gillespie has been with us for the past year as a GP Registrar - completing his final year of GP training. We are very pleased that, having completed his training, he has now joined the practice as a Partner. Dr Gillespie will be taking over the care of the patients previously registered with Dr Watts.
Extended Hours Opening - evening clinics and Saturday mornings.
From the 1st June 2018 Mid Downs Medical practice have been offering evening and Saturday clinics for pre-bookable appointments.
We are working alongside Buxted Medical Centre in order to provide evening clinics each weekday and a weekly Saturday morning clinic. Between the two practices, we have an evening clinic each weekday, from 6.30pm - 8pm. There will also be a Saturday clinic each week from 9 - 12pm.
Newick Health Centre is open on Monday and Wednesday evenings and every other Saturday morning.
Our patients are also able to access the clinics held by Buxted Medical Centre on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday evenings and every other Saturday, for continuity we would encourage patients to book in with their own GP if needing a consultation regarding an ongoing problem.
These clinics are for appointments which have been pre-booked and are not for walk-in or emergency appointments - patients should continue to contact NHS111 if they have an urgent medical need after 6.30pm. The practice will not be open during these times for telephone or walk-in queries. The practice is open from 8.30am - 6.30pm for assistance with all routine queries.

You could become part of our patient group giving as much or little time as convenient to you. It could even be an hour a month or less.

NHS 111 is the free number to call if you have an urgent healthcare need when the surgery isn't open. It directs you to the right local service, first time.
It is available across the whole of England making it easier for you to access urgent healthcare services when you need medical help fast.It is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Calls are free from landlines and mobile phones
When should you call it?
- You need medical help fast, but it’s not a 999 emergency
- You don’t know who to call for medical help or you don’t have a GP to call
- You think you need to go to A&E or another NHS urgent care service but are not sure which one is most appropriate; or
- You require health advice or reassurance about what to do next
How does it work?
- When you call 111 you will be assessed by fully trained advisers who are supported by experienced nurses and paramedics. They will ask you questions to assess your symptoms and give you the healthcare advice you need or direct you straightaway to the local service that can help you best.
- If the NHS 111 team think you need an ambulance, they will send one immediately.
VENUE CHANGE: Ringmer Memory Moments Café.
Know Dementia have been working in collaboration with HWLH CCG to make sure people living with dementia and their carers can access support in their local community as part of the Golden Ticket pilot. We help make a real difference to the lives of people with dementia and their carers by offering: support ^ & advice, Memory Moments Cafes, well-being activities and raising awareness in the community.
Dementia is one of the biggest health and social care challenges facing the UK today, costing more than cancer, heart disease and stroke combined. Given the relatively high numbers of frail elderly in the CCG area, the management of dementia is a growing concern for HWLH CCG. Therefore the CCG has supported Know Dementia to set up Memory Moments Cafes at: Ringmer, Peacehaven, Buxted, Uckfield and Crowborough. Everyone is welcome, especially those with memory problems and their family supporter. Some of the aims of the Cafes are to provide an opportunity to chat, to develop carer support networks and offer information and advice to those living with Dementia and their carers.
Your patient’s local cafe has been relocated from Lewes to Ringmer and will be held weekly from Thursday 27th October, 0930-1230hrs at:

The café provides support for persons living with dementia and their carers enhancing well-being through advice, information and activity.
Golden Ticket wins National Primary Care Award for Pathway Innovation of the Year.
I am very pleased and immensely proud to be able to congratulate the Dementia Golden Ticket Team on winning the National Primary Care Award for Pathway Innovation of the Year.
For those that aren't aware, the Golden Ticket is a multi service integrated pathway that has been piloted around Buxted Surgery in East Sussex with excellent feedback and results. We are now in the process of rolling out The Golden Ticket acorss the CCG and this has the potential to improve the lives and care of all our dementia sufferers and their carers.
Congratulations to all those who have supported the project in whatever way.

Sussex MSK Partnership East future patient forums

A light lunch will be provided at 12.30 pm, the meetings will start at 1.00 and will finish by 3 pm.
They are particularly looking for the following patients and/or those of you who look after:
Anyone who has been diagnosed or treated by the MSK Partnership.
Anyone who has inflammatory arthritis, such as rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis or ankylosing spondylitis.
Anyone who has a long term condition with pain, possibly with a diagnosis of fibromyalgia.
These will be the first forums held by the Partnership in these towns. If you would like to attend one of these please contact firstname.lastname@example.org who will send further details.

PROSTATE CANCER SUPPORT GROUP
(HAYWARDS HEATH AND DISTRICT)
Our group has a strong membership which meets every four month at The Dolphin Practice in Haywards Heath to hear experts from the field of Cancer Research, and Treatments, including Palliative Care.
The group has a regular attendance of about 60 men and their partners who are keen to share their experience with men newly diagnosed who find it very helpful at a time of high anxiety and stress.
We have a telephone helpline and a well used website which give dates of support group meetings as well as useful information on prostate cancer:

The Health Help Now web app can be found online at healthhelpnow-nhs.net and is free to everyone who lives and works in East Sussex. It functions like a mobile phone app and helps people check their symptoms and find the best place for treatment – showing which services near them are open. It will help people to know when to go to A&E, and when not to.
Care Quality Commission 'CQC' rating 'GOOD' in all areas
We have recently received our report following our inspection by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) in February 2015. Please see a full copy of the report under 'Further Information'. We are really pleased and proud to have achieved a 'Good' rating in all areas inspected by the CQC. The inspection is very thorough and all of the staff and clinicians at the practice work hard to adhere to best practice guidelines, policies and procedures. Thank you for all the positive comments and feedback we received from our patients during this process.
Friends of Newick Health Centre - Public defibrillator available at Newick Health
Mr Peter Todd - Secretary of the Friends of Newick Health Centre - has arranged for several defibrillators to be available in Newick. There is now a public defibrillator stored near the front doors of Newick Health Centre which anybody can access in case of emergencies - whilst waiting for the emergency services to arrive. Our thanks go to the Friends of Newick Health Centre for their generous contribution to the safety and welfare of the villagers.
If you experience an injury which is not serious, go to a Minor Injuries Unit (MIU) rather
than an A&E department. There are two minor injury units within our area, both of which
are open from 8am to 8pm, seven days a week.
There is one at Uckfield Hospital - 01825 769999 and one at
Victoria Hospital , Lewes 01273 474153.
Minor injuries units can treat: sprains and strains, broken bones, wound infections, minor
burns and scalds, minor head injuries, insect and animal bites, minor eye injuries, injuries
to the back, shoulder and chest. There is not usually a long waiting time to be seen in a
minor injury unit.
- Medical students - training
Twice a year we will have a medical student at the practice for a four week period, during which they will observe all areas of general practice under the supervision of Dr Rajan or Dr Sri. This will provide them with the essential work experience they need in general practice.
Our Practice Nurse - Mandie Bridger - has recently completed the training necessary for her to be able to treat patients who are keen to quit smoking. She can help patients with smoking cessation therapy and offer support and information along the way. If you are keen to quit smoking please book an appointment with Mandie to discuss this further.
The NHS Health Check programme is for adults in England aged between 40 and 74. If you're
invited for an NHS Health Check you'll be offered a series of routine tests that will help identify
your risk of developing heart disease, stroke, kidney disease and type 2 diabetes. You'll then be
given advice on what action you can take to lower your risk and improve your chances of a
healthier life. For example, making changes to your diet or becoming more active.

Patient Reference Group - find out more
A Patient Reference Group has been set up for the practice which enables our patients to provide feedback, suggestions, concerns or compliments to the practice which helps us with planning future services and health events.
With help and suggestions from the PRG, a patient survey has been conducted regarding the services the practice offers to patients. From the results of the survey, an action plan has been drawn up with plans of how we will improve upon our services offered . Please see the Survey Report for more details.
