Covid-19 Vaccination Status - 14th May 2021
From 17 May 2021, people in England who have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 can demonstrate their vaccination status for international travel. A full course is currently two doses of any approved vaccine. Vaccine status will be available from:
- NHS App which you can download from app stores
- The NHS website (from 17 May 2021)
It may take more than a week for your identity to be checked and verified so you can use these services.
If you cannot access these online services, and you have had 2 vaccines, you can request a paper letter from the NHS by calling 119. Only call 119 if you had your second dose more than 5 working days ago. It may take 7 working days for the letter to arrive.
This practice is not able to provide you with a letter that shows your COVID-19 vaccination status.
When you're planning your travel, check the latest information on demonstrating your COVID-19 status when travelling abroad on the gov.uk website. Make sure there is time to get proof of your vaccination status before you leave.
Covid Vaccination Phase 2 - update 21st April 2021
The Greater Wealden Primary Care Network comprising Bird in Eye Surgery, Buxted Medical Centre, Heathfield Medical Centre, Herstmonceux Integrative Health Centre, Meads Medical Centre and Mid Downs Partnership are delighted to announce that we will be offering Covid vaccinations as part of Phase 2 of the vaccination programme.
This means that as our patients who are aged under 50 become eligible we will be offering local vaccination appointments with the majority taking place at each surgery’s own premises.
Currently anyone aged 45 to 49 is eligible, as well as those from the initial priority groups – those aged 50 and above, those clinically extremely vulnerable, those with underlying health conditions and unpaid carers.
We are really excited to be taking part in the further roll out of the vaccination programme for our patients and will post further news once we are able to announce details of our first ‘phase 2’ clinics.
In the meantime patients are able to book their first appointments at any of the large vaccination centres online using this link or they can telephone 119.
If there is anyone in the initial priority groups who has not yet had their first dose, please contact us as soon as possible so that this can be arranged quickly.
We are also all currently working to invite patients for their second vaccination. You will be contacted around 11 weeks from your first vaccination. Please do not contact us before this point – we will be in touch with you as soon as your second appointment is available.
Covid Vaccination Phase 2 - update 16th April 2021
The Greater Wealden Primary Care Network are currently in discussions regarding phase two (vaccination of the under 50s) of the Covid vaccination programme.
We are currently focused on providing second dose appointments for all of our patients in the first nine priority groups to make sure they have their maximum protection and don’t presently have vaccines at the surgery which have been assigned for first doses for anyone in the new 45-49 year old group.
We hope to be able to provide some clarity on this towards the end of next week.
In the meantime, if you are aged 45-49, or aged 50 and over, in a clinically vulnerable group or are an unpaid carer, and wish to get your vaccine over the coming days, you are able to book your vaccine at the one of the larger vaccination centres using the following link https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/coronavirus-vaccination/book-coronavirus-vaccination/ or by calling 119.
If you are in one of the initial priority groups and have not yet had your first dose, please do contact your GP practice so we can arrange as soon as possible.
If you are waiting for your second dose, please be reassured you will be contacted at approximately 11 weeks to arrange your appointment. Please do not contact us before this point.

You may be asked by your GP to provide, via email, a photograph of an area you are concerned about, please find some tips below for taking a clear image.
- Make sure your pictures are well lit, making use of natural light where possibl
- An ideal background will offer contrast with the colour of skin
- Take multiple photos from different angles to include all sides of the area you’re concerned about
- Make sure the area is in focus, on smartphones you can focus by clicking the area of interest on the screen
- You could place something, such as a coin, on the skin to offer context of the size of lesion
- Don’t wear make-up on the area that you’re concerned about in the image or during the appointment
- If the area is hard to reach, ask a friend or family member to take the photo, if possible
- You may need to retake the photo a few times to get one which isn’t blurry.

Warning over COVID vaccination scams
Be on your guard against fraudulent text and email messages as new scams are being sent to patients.
People are receiving a text or email notification of their ‘vaccination appointment’ and are being asked to confirm it by clicking on a link.
This looks very similar to the genuine texts being sent to patients to arrange their appointments at the GP led vaccination services.
Please follow the advice below.
- The COVID-19 vaccination is ONLY available from the NHS and it is FREE – you will never be asked to pay for it or give your bank details.
- If you receive a call you believe to be fraudulent, hang up.
- If you receive a text or email that you believe to be fraudulent please delete it. Please be assured that if you don’t respond because you are worried and it is a genuine text or email, you will remain on the vaccination list and be contacted again
- If you believe you have been the victim of fraud or identity theft you should report this directly to Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040. Where the victim is vulnerable, report it to Sussex Police online or by calling 101.
Guidance on official NHS texts
- An official NHS text message from your GP practice will include their details such as the name of the Practice. It may also include details of the vaccination centre. Scam text messages and emails usually don’t include his information

We are pleased to confirm that from Monday 18 January, patients over the age of 80 at Heathfield Surgery will start to receive appointments for their COVID-19 vaccination.
We all recognise how important it is to roll out this vital protection across our communities and we are keen to make sure that these patients – amongst the most vulnerable to COVID-19 – start to receive the vaccine.
Vaccinations will be taking place at the GP led vaccination centre at The Meads Surgery and also now at some of our GP practice sites in the Greater Wealden PCN.
We ask all patients - please do not contact your surgery about the vaccination programme and please wait until you are contacted.
We expect appointments to be booked in the coming days and vaccination clinics to be held next week.
Vaccinations are by appointment only, please do not attend a GP practice without an appointment for your vaccination. When you are contacted you will be advised where your appointment is taking place.
No one will be forgotten and everyone over the age of 80 across all of our GP practices will be contacted over the next week if you haven’t already had an appointment.
Currently appointments are being made for patients over the age of 80 at Heathfield Surgery in line with the order of the priority groups that have been set nationally for the vaccine. We will continue to communicate with all of our patients about when and where the next priority groups will receive the vaccine.
If any of our patients across all of our GP practices are housebound and cannot come to a vaccination service, there will be home visits for you run by Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust. These are currently being planned and you will be contacted as soon as possible.
In recent days we have also been working to visit our vulnerable residents in care homes. We intend to have vaccinated at all of our care homes by the end of next week subject to vaccine supply.
The NHS in Sussex is committed to the continual roll-out of the vaccination programme across our communities and the Sussex Clinical Commissioning Group will ensure that patients in all cohorts will be vaccinated. The priority list as advised by NHS England, is as follows:

- all individuals aged 16 years to 64 years with underlying health conditions which put them at higher risk of serious disease and mortality

Extended Hours Opening - evening clinics and Saturday mornings.
Working alongside Buxted Medical Centre we provide evening clinics every weekday, from 6.30pm - 8pm.
The Saturday clinic runs from 8.30am - 12.30pm.
Newick Health Centre will be open on Monday and Wednesday evenings and every other Saturday morning.
Our patients are also able to access the clinics held by Buxted Medical Centre on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday evenings and every other Saturday. However, we would encourage patients to book in with their own GP if your consultation is regarding an ongoing problem.
These clinics are for appointments which have been pre-booked and are not for walk-in or emergency appointments - patients should continue to contact NHS 111 if they have an urgent medical need after 6.30pm and at weekends.
Prescription Ordering Direct (POD) a new and convenient way to order your repeat prescription.
The NHS Prescription Ordering Direct service is the easy way for you to order your repeat prescription. All it takes is a simple phone call that you can make from the comfort of your own home - there's no need to go into the GP practice or pharmacy to order your medication.

Ordering your prescription will be a quick and simple telephone call. You can discuss your medication requirements and we can alert you if a medication review is needed.
The NHS POD service is provided, on behalf of the practice, by NHS High Weald Lewes Havens Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG). Your call will be answered by a dedicated, experienced and fully trained prescription co-ordinator.
FREE Blood Pressure Check - Self-service machine at Newick Health Centre
Newick Surgery now has an easy to use blood pressure machine. No need to book. The Health Monitoring machine also measures your height, weight and BMI. It is self-service, so no need to book an appointment. Just pop in and ask at reception for a token.

Ordering Repeat Prescriptions via the website
Please register with Patient Access services to be able to order prescriptions via our website. You will need to visit the surgery with your ID to fully activate your online access. When you are registered with Patient Access, you will be able to book appointments and view your medical record online too.

Text Message Reminders
In order to reduce wasted appointments, we send text message reminders to our patients. You can receive information by text message on your mobile phone regarding appointments and your healthcare.

The inspection is very thorough and all of the staff and clinicians at the practice work hard to adhere to best practice guidelines, policies and procedures. Friends of Newick Health Centre - Public defibrillator available at Newick Health Centre
Mr Peter Todd - Secretary of the Friends of Newick Health Centre - has arranged for several defibrillators to be available in Newick. There is now a public defibrillator stored near the front doors of Newick Health Centre which anybody can access in case of emergencies - whilst waiting for the emergency services to arrive. Our thanks go to the Friends of Newick Health Centre for their generous contribution to the safety and welfare of the villagers.
Free NHS Health Checks
The NHS Health Check programme is for adults in England aged between 40 and 74. If you're invited for an NHS Health Check you'll be offered a series of routine tests that will help identify your risk of developing heart disease, stroke, kidney disease and type 2 diabetes.
You will then be given advice on what action you can take to lower your risk and improve your chances of a healthier life. For example, making changes to your diet or becoming more active. We will be inviting eligible patients over the next few months but if you are interested in attending for a check please speak to the reception team to book an appointment.
Summary Care Record
Your Summary Care Record will contain important information about any medicines you are taking, allergies you suffer from and any bad reactions to medicines that you have.
Healthcare staff who can see your Summary Care Record:
need to be directly involved in caring for you;
need to have an NHS Smartcard with a chip and passcode (like a bank card and PIN);
will only see the information they need to do their job; and
will have their details recorded.
Healthcare staff will ask your permission every time they need to look at your Summary Care Record. If they cannot ask you, for example if you are unconscious or in certain circumstances such as a court order, healthcare staff may look at your record without asking you. If they have to do this, they will make a note on your record.
